One simple anti-roach method is to mix up a batch of borax and sugar.  Put in equal parts of Borax and sugar and mix thoroughly. If you do not have sugar, you can also mix the borax with jelly or syrup. Apply the mixture to baseboards, in cracks and crevices, under cabinets and under sinks, and anywhere else you have seen roaches in your home.  Reapply the mixture as needed until you no longer see the pests. Some people prefer to put this mixture in containers – which is less messy and just as effective.  

A few other tips:

• Borax is seen as a laundry booster, so you can most likely find it in the laundry aisle at most stores.
• Store any unused portions of your mixture in an airtight, labeled container to keep it fresh.  
• This is a slow process and may take several weeks until you see the infestation problem eliminated.
• Borax will lose its effectiveness when it gets wet, so replace it as needed.
• The mixture will also stop any ant problems.

This is an excellent method to reduce any cockroach problem.  Roaches will consume the mixture because they are attracted to the sugar. Once the cockroaches eat the mixture, the borax will damage their digestive system and their outer skeleton, which results in their ultimate demise.
